The 19-year-old currently owns the title for having the most followers in the world on the social networking site, overtaking Lady Gaga last year.
However, of the 37.3 million followers amassed by the ‘Boyfriend’ singer, only 17.8 million are real accounts.
That’s right, social media analytic experts Socialbakers have concluded that only 47% of Justin’s avid Twitter followers are true Beliebers.
According to the social media big wigs, a fake account is identified as one with only one or no followers and only follows less than 50 others.
Further traits to identify a fake account are ones that are only used to send spam tweets or have never tweeted at all.
This new discovery therefore means that Justin will have to hand back his crown as the king of Twitter to Lady Gaga.
Gaga may also have her fair share of fake followers too, but unfortunately for Biebs, she has amassed 19 million real ones, trumping his 17.
Justin Bieber has been having a troubled time of late following an unsuccessful visit to the UK which more than likely led to him losing a fair few authentic Twitter followers in the process.
During his visit, Justin showed up on stage at the O2 two hours late and attacked a photographer.
But it’s not all bad news for Bieber, as former Oasis front man Liam Gallagher revealed today that he was a fan of the star.
He said: “Anyone who goes on two hours late is f****** right in my book, man.
“All these so-called rock bands that sit backstage going, ‘Hey, let’s wait 15 minutes’.
“F*** that, wait two hours and 15 minutes! No one will beat that, ever.
“So get off his back, man — I am a Belieber!”
